A 2011 Sundance Institute Fellow, Ronen especially enjoys collaborating with filmmakers; cinema inspires him to create music that is inventive and daring, and, above all, music that communicates.
Films he has scored include The Pact (IFC Films, Official Selection: Sundance), the international drama Festival of Lights, the landmark Iraqi-made documentary The Dreams of Sparrows (Official Selection: SXSW), City of Borders (Winner of the Teddy Audience Award, Berlin International Film Festival), the romantic drama Divergence (Official Selection: Method Fest), and the uplifting environmental documentary Burning in the Sun (PBS, Official Selection: New York African Film Festival). He has contributed music to numerous television programs, including Comedy Central’s Colbert Report and Discovery Channel’s Life, and recently composed music for the video game Hooked, playable on Facebook.
Ronen released his debut compilation album, Picturebooks, in 2009. Among his many talented collaborators on the album are Anna Bulbrook of The Airborne Toxic Event, Emily and Julia Bruskin of the Claremont Trio, Lev Zhurbin of Ljova and the Kontraband, and Malian kora virtuoso Yacouba Sissoko. Picturebooks also features Ronen’s own performances on guitar, mandolin, and oud (Arabic lute).
Ronen received his B.A in Music and Political Science from Columbia University, where he graduated with honors from the Music department, and his M.A. in music composition and film scoring from New York University. Currently, he spends time in both Los Angeles and New York.
